Meet Dr. Dave Dunbar
Originally from London, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Dunbar earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto before completing his specialty training in Periodontics and a Master of Science at the University of Michigan. Coming from Southwestern Ontario, he quickly felt at home in the Midwest during his years in Michigan and was drawn to Madison by its welcoming community and the opportunity to join the exceptional team at Dental Implants & Periodontal Specialists.
Leadership was a central part of Dr. Dunbar's dental education. After serving as Class President throughout dental school, he was elected President of the Dental Students' Society, representing the entire student body. He graduated with the Dean's Gold Medal, awarded to the graduate demonstrating the highest overall achievement in academics, leadership, research, and service, and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society recognizing students among the top academic performers in his class. At the University of Michigan, he completed specialty training in one of the nation's leading periodontics programs, where his master's research focused on bone regeneration and dental implants in the esthetic zone. He continues to contribute to research and education as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member at the University of Michigan. Dr. Dunbar's professional interests include soft tissue grafting, bone regeneration, periodontal plastic surgery, and dental implant therapy. He believes patients should feel informed, comfortable, and confident in every step of their care, and takes pride in creating a welcoming environment where patients feel heard and never rushed.
Outside the office, Dr. Dunbar enjoys playing hockey and soccer, following football, and staying active through running. He has a passion for astrophotography and looks forward to exploring the dark skies surrounding Madison, photographing galaxies, nebulae, and other celestial objects. He is also learning Brazilian Portuguese to connect with his significant other's family and enjoys traveling, meeting new people, and spending time with family and friends.
